TCLS: Author Dr. Katherine Ramsland – 12.3.2024

Dr. Katherine Ramsland will be discussing her latest book, “The Serial Killer’s Apprentice.”

Elmer Wayne Henley Jr. was 15 when Houston’s “Candy Man,” Dean Corll, recruited him in 1972 to be an accomplice. With another teen, David Brooks, Henley helped to kill and bury many of Corll’s 27 victims. Finally, Henley ended it by shooting Corll.

He took police to three mass burial sites before going to prison. He’s been there for 50 years.

Ramsland, an expert on extreme offenders, will describe how her extensive interviews with Henley helped to form an accomplice typology and clarify the dynamics of such murder affiliations. She contrasts this with Dennis Rader, the “BTK” serial killer, whom she also interviewed. Within this frame, she shows how kids today are vulnerable to predators seeking partners.
